Body-licious Wedding Dresses

Whatever style of wedding dress is in vogue when you get married, it’s always best to dress for your figure and put an extra spring of confidence in your step on the big day.

However much you adore the fishtail frock worn by the latest celebrity to tie the knot, it’s important to find the right balance between fashion and a dress that’s going to flatter your unique body shape.
Below are a few tips on how to find a gown that works with your curves…

Classic Hourglass

Hourglass-shaped brides have the freedom to wear pretty much any dress they like, thanks to the fact that their top and bottom halves are evenly balanced with a very defined waist. In order to show that waist off, corset dresses, sweetheart necklines and A-line dresses are all a hit. If you’re more of a curvaceous hourglass, a trumpet style dress will work wonders for your figure. Beware of throwing off the balance between your top and bottom halves by adding weight to either. Also avoid empire-line silhouettes and ball gowns that disguise your shapely figure.

Terrific Triangles

Brides with a triangular body shape are wider in the top half of the body, with shoulders broader than the hips. Dresses with puffed sleeves that emphasize your shoulders are out of the question. Halter and off the shoulder necklines will also draw attention to that area, so to achieve balance it’s best to steer clear of these styles. Instead, consider a V-neck style to cover up broad shoulders. Alternatively, dresses with scoop necklines or thick shoulder straps will work well on triangle body types. If you are self conscious about your shoulders, cover up with a shawl or a bolero.

Amazing Apples

Bootylicious apple-shaped brides tend to carry most of their weight around the middle of the body. An empire-line dress takes all the attention away from your waist, making you look a little leaner. A ball gown will also magically cover up any extra weight around the tummy that you aren’t keen to show off. If these styles don’t take your fancy, an A-line gown with a dropped waist will look fabulous on an apple figure. Stay away from dresses that draw people’s eyes towards your middle, which means no princess-line and basque dresses.

Pretty Pears

Pears tend to be smaller on the top than in the lower part of their body, with the shoulders narrower than the hips. Once again, empire line dresses are a great choice to highlight the narrowest part of your body. Strapless ballgowns will also look fantastic because they draw attention to your shoulders, which you will obviously want to highlight! If you’re getting married in sunny Thailand. Princess style dresses are also a good match for a pear-shaped figure, as they draw focus to the top half and balance out the torso and bust.

Sleek and Slim

Last – but certainly not least – we have sleek and slim ballerina shaped brides with an undefined waist. Dresses with a fitted bodice and full, flowing skirt will establish the illusion of curves, while delicate embroidery in all the right places will also appear to give you a fuller figure. Slim ladies have one of the few body shapes that can pull off a high neckline, although this might not be ideal if you’re tying the knot in the tropics. A sheath may be a more ideal choice for the warm climate, and it will compliment a slender form.
