There are very few designers that enjoy the legendary status of Valentino, who kicked off his fashion career in the golden era of Italian fashion in the 1960s. This season, Valentino’s collection of bridal couture evoked a dreamy, ethereal style that conjured up images of otherworldly goddesses. Gowns featured on the catwalk this year were both long and short, classical and modern, fitted and elegantly draped. In short, Valentino’s Autumn Winter collection ticked all the boxes – once again.

Vive la France

Jean Paul Gaultier’s striking designs are likely to appeal to the "rock 'n' roll" bride who doesn’t mind showcasing alternative style as she walks down the aisle. Gaultier’s gothic-inspired collection clearly drew inspiration from the darker side of fairy tales, offering the perfect option for brides that want to add a little drama to the day. Paired with a striking hairstyle and minimalist makeup, Gaultier’s Autumn Winter collection will turn any bride into a gothic beauty.

Pure Elegance

Vionnet’s Autumn Winter collection truly broke the mould this year, especially when it came to traditional wedding dress tailoring. Hussein Chalayan is behind the designs, which offer a geometric twist on all the classical angles of bridal couture. A real stand out is the preezy pale pink number, which features a pastel-pink skirt and a 3D floral neck. The light, flowing material and striking silhouette makes the gown perfect for a sunset photo shoot following a beach wedding in Thailand. The light material is also great for brides that want to stay cool throughout the day, yet remain impeccably elegant and romantic.

Fairytale Wedding

For brides that want their wedding days to embody all the dazzling features of a fairytale, look no further than Elie Saab’s Autumn Winter bridal couture collection. This Lebanese fashion designer knows how to hit the princess notes like no other designer around. In many senses, the collection breaks away from tradition by offering a gleaming palette of golds, bronze and cinnamon. However, the elegant shapes and silhouettes are a distinct nod to the past. Barely-there fabrics dressed with glittering embroideries and details feature heavily, and are destined to appeal to brides in search of the ‘wow’ factor.

Alexis Mabille’s collection offers us something a little different to the usual ultra-feminine creations of the design house. His latest couture collection throw up an array of striking new silhouettes, many of which clearly take inspiration from more masculine tailoring to bring something new to the catwalk – and the aisle. Alongside more masculine layering, the designs also feature traditional floral-style tailoring to appeal to brides in search of traditional gowns with a modern edge.
