Enjoy the Matrimonial Moment

Wedding day jitters are a normal part of the process for any bride or groom, but there are plenty of ways to ease the pressure a little in the run-up to your big day.

The build-up to any big event where you will be in the spotlight is bound to cause a few butterflies in your stomach, especially when it's one that you have put a great deal of time and expense into planning.

The presence of a few pre-wedding stomach flips is therefore normal for a bride or groom, but the key is just knowing how to manage them so they don’t ruin what is likely to be one of the most wonderful moments of your life.

Often, jitters revolve around the likelihood of something going wrong, so if you can uncover the root of your anxiety, it is much easier to address the problem and banish your concerns.

Below are some tips on how to relax and enjoy the special day.

Planned to Perfection

For many brides – and grooms for that matter – the idea of being under the spotlight in front of a large audience is all it takes to get nervous. For brides, the fear of tripping over the long wedding gown trains or slipping in impossible high heeled shoes as they walk down the aisle is all encompassing. For grooms, the fear of saying personal vows or going a speech in front of a large audience can be more than daunting. This is where practice and planning come in handy. If you are worried about tripping down the aisle, why not do away with the aisle altogether and simply arrange your seating differently? If it is public speaking that makes your palms sweat, get in some practice beforehand. Breathing techniques can make a big difference, and something as simple as marking out points in your speech where you will take that calming breath can make a big difference.

The Day Before

With the hectic schedule of your wedding day to look forward to, it is often best to leave the day before completely free so that you can unwind and rest in preparation. On islands like Phuket and Koh Samui, there's a multitude of lavish spas at your fingertips, so why not unwind with a few relaxing and health giving treatments? A spa day also provides the opportunity to spend some quality time with your immediate family before the big day. If you are having a hard time relaxing, select a few lavender-based treatments. A lavender oil massage will not only make you smell great, but is a proven aromatherapy treatment that will have you feeling relaxed in no time.

An Excellent Evening

If the idea of mixing with the in-laws on your wedding day is proving a source of anxiety, then get any nervousness out of your system at a rehearsal dinner before the wedding. A rehearsal dinner provides an ideal relaxed setting for family members from both sides to break the ice and get to know each other a little better. A relaxed evening together with a light, friendly atmosphere will also distract you from obsessing about each and every detail of the wedding day. If you are lucky enough to be staying in a private villa with beach access, why not get your bridesmaids or groomsmen to host a beach barbecue? After all, there are few places more relaxing than beneath the shade of a palm tree on one of Thailand’s pristine, sandy beaches.

In the Morning

The big day has finally arrived, and its exactly six hours until you walk down the aisle. To avoid any stress in your final few hours of singledom, create a wedding day timeline to help put yourself at ease. Nothing is more un-nerving than running late, so wedding day timelines should include everything from your morning shower to the time you have allotted for taking photographs whilst you and your bridesmaids get your hair and makeup done. If you have been practicing any techniques to keep you calm, like yoga or meditation, try to fit in a half hour session some time during the big day to help keep you in a calm mind set.

The Power of Delegation

One of the best things about having a wedding planner is that it's their job to do your worrying for you on the big day. Go through all the wedding day checklists on food, décor and entertainment well in advance so that there are no surprises. Any last minute errands that need running on the morning of the wedding are down to the Maid of Honour or Best Man. After all, that is why you selected them to stand by your side on such an important day.
