Extending Your Wedding

Submitted by CLX-view on January 4, 2015

If you want to make your wedding celebrations last for as long as possible, there are plenty of ways to keep the party rolling when you marry in the breathtaking playground that is the Land of Smiles.

After months of planning, it is normal for couples to feel a bit of a bump back down to earth once their wedding day is over. That's why the trend among newlyweds is to extend the celebrations for as long as possible – particularly those enjoying the benefits of hosting their nuptials on a tropical Thai island like Phuket or Koh Samui.

If your guests have travelled thousands of miles from various points across the world to celebrate with you, there are plenty of ways to make sure the celebratory atmosphere and party fun goes on for a few days after the ceremony.

Below are a few ideas to help make sure your wedding bliss lingers a little longer.

Into the Blue

If you enjoy feeling the sea breeze in your hair (and who doesn't?) with endless views of an azure blue ocean to feast your eyes on, then chartering a yacht is the perfect way to extend your wedding celebration. Whether you are staying on Koh Samui or Phuket, there are plenty of marine attractions to explore once you set sail. Samui is nestled close to the Ang Thong Marine Park, which boasts dozens of untouched, pristine islets all ripe for exploration. If you are based in Phuket, you are in close proximity to stunning islands like Koh Phi Phi and Koh Yao, and you can also visit some of the finest marinas in Southeast Asia.

Pump up the Adrenaline

If you didn’t have time to squeeze in too many fun activities before the big day, never fear – there is always time afterwards for some adventures with your best friends. Zip-lining is one sure-fire way to get the adrenaline pumping. To explore the jungle by flying through the trees, head to Flying Hanuman on Phuket, and shoot along at a height of 40m from tree to tree. On Samui, you can fly through the jungle at Canopy Adventures with views of the twinkling ocean in the distance. ATV (all terrain vehicle) riding is also a popular way of exploring the lush interiors of both islands. Natural tracks wind through palm and rubber plantations, crossing streams and rivers, and the rush of wind in your face is guaranteed to keep you cool in the tropical heat.

Howling at the Moon

If you celebrate your wedding on Koh Samui, you are a mere 30 minute boat ride from Koh Phangan, home to the world’s most famous beach rave – the Full Moon Party. Although it has been completely transformed since it started as a hippy gathering in the 1970s, the bright lights and electric atmosphere attract party-goers from across the globe. Based on Haad Rin Beach, the party attracts up to 50,000 revellers in high season months. On the night, shuttle speedboats run every hour between Koh Samui and Koh Phangan from 11pm to 7am, so once you've danced your flip flops off, you can head back to the comfort of your private holiday villa in to sleep off the high spirits.

Relax and Recharge

If you fancy spending the day chilling out with your bridesmaids or best men, Thailand's islands are home to some world class spas and retreats that provide an oasis to relax in following all the celebrations. Whether its a pedicure or an indulgent hot stone massage, pampering your friends with a few luxurious spa treatments is a wonderful way to say thank you for all of their help during the wedding planning process.

Pool Party

If you hosted your wedding at an exclusive private villa, there is no need to venture beyond the boundaries of the property in order to extend your wedding celebrations. If you keep the villa for a few days, you can organize a pool party for the afternoon after your wedding day. This is a great way for guests who met at the wedding to spend a little more time together enjoying the villa’s fantastic facilities. Crank up your favourite summer tunes on the villa sound system, pop some lobster onto the barbecue and you’re ready to roll on into the night.
