Perfect Fit for your Villa Wedding

Instead of embarking on a crash diet and a gruelling exercise regime to squeeze into the perfect wedding dress, many brides choose to follow a simple set of rules that help them find the perfect gown to flatter their body shape.

While months of healthy eating and trips to the gym before your wedding are undoubtedly good for the physique; it is still essential to choose the right gown to fit your figure. Even when you lose weight or tone up, it is impossible to change the basic shape of your frame so when it comes to selecting your wedding dress from a choice of thousands, it is important to understand the characteristics of your own shape to make sure you get the right dress to flatter it. The texture of the material, the cut of the dress, and the shape of the under garments you select can all have an impact on your overall look.

Pear-shaped brides

Pear-shaped women like Kim Kardashian tend to carry more weight below the waist. To flatter those curvy hips, look out for an A-line skirt that flares out below the waistline, highlighting the narrowness of the waist before skirting over the hips and thighs. Fabrics like duchesse satin and taffeta are a hit with women who have this body shape because they are naturally sturdy, and therefore less likely to cling to curves. Extra touches like a V-shaped neckline will also draw attention to the slender upper-half of the body.

Busty brides

Busty brides who don’t want to show too much cleavage often go for a wedding gown with a scoop neckline. If your heart is set on a strapless dress, a sweetheart neckline with a dip in the middle is a lot more flattering for a large bust than one that goes straight across, which can make the bust appear even larger. Steer clear of sheen materials that draw too much attention to the chest area, like satin and silk.

Apple Brides

Brides with an apple-shaped body, like voluptuous Jennifer Hudson, should focus on drawing attention to the vertical details of their form, rather than the horizontal ones. A gown that cinches in at the smallest point of the waist before flaring out into an A is great for creating a little more shape. Deep V-shape necklines also help emphasise vertical details and add length. Furthermore, bodices with lots of texture and detailing will help to create a corset like effect.

Straight-line Brides

Brides that are desperate to add some curves to their body have plenty of choices for the most flattering wedding gown. Ball gowns that cinch in at the waist before plummeting down into a flowing full-length skirt are a good choice, as they make the most of the bride’s slender frame as well as creating the illusion of curvier hips. A bodice with extra detailing and ruching can also create the illusion of more volume in the chest area.

Slender Brides

At her wedding earlier this year, Keira Knightley flattered her slender frame by choosing a simple gown with a ruched bodice to create the illusion of a curvier chest. Extra fabric and detailing in the bodice fills out the upper body, and lightly padded halter neck styles create the same effect. Brides with smaller busts can also make the most of their natural curves by selecting the right underwear for their dress. The right bra can provide an extra boost and add shape to the body before the dress even goes on.
