Sweet Wedding Delights

One of the best things about a destination wedding in Thailand is the ease with which every aspect of the day can be customised – including the desserts. Many couples are breaking away from the traditional wedding cake, and serving up a more unusual range of sweet treats instead.

For wedding guests that harbour a guilty sweet tooth the dessert is often one of the highlights of a wedding day. An increasing number of newlyweds are adding a little extra to the sweet course, either by incorporating tasty tidbits into the overall décor of the wedding or sometimes even using dessert as a form of entertainment.

Hosting a destination wedding in Thailand allows the bride and groom to incorporate tradition as much or as little as they like. In Thailand’s balmy climate, there is not much desire for a heavy slice of wedding cake; guests may prefer something with a more zesty, refreshing taste. Alternatively, some couples serve guests a choice of sweet treats as appetisers, allowing them to sample a range of dishes rather than filling up on just one.

Bringing back the Barbecue

For the savoury course, couples that choose island destinations like Phuket or Koh Samui for their wedding also often make the most of the coastal location by indulging in a seafood barbecue and even possible to extend the barbecue theme to their dessert course. Roasting marshmallows over the barbecue is one of life’s most simple (yet very sweet) pleasures, and introduces a little more fun into the dining experience. A drizzle of caramel sauce and a fresh slice of fruit will transform a simple marshmallow into an indulgent, sticky treat.

A shot of fun

Shot glass parfaits combine a range of dreamy flavours, from the natural sweetness of chopped fruit, to the rich, buttery taste of fresh cream. These novel creations can make for a fabulous dessert for couples that want to add a little flare to their wedding colours, and Thailand’s wide range of tropical fruits means this dessert can be both colourful and delicious.

A Cracking Crème Brûlée

There are few desserts as simple but effective as crème brûlée. The hard crackle of flame-charred sugar mixed with the rich, creamy content below is a guaranteed winner. To make your wedding crème brûlées really sizzle, why not serve them in a range of colourful petite ramekins to create an ultra chic effect? Crème brûlées can also be garnished with small, brightly coloured flowers to give them additional visual impact before the taste takes over.

Sweet Party Favours

Chocolate truffles make an indulgent dessert or party favour at any wedding, and in Thailand it would only be right to spice them up a bit. A sprinkling of chilli and chai gives each truffle a little extra kick, while couples that really want to treat their guests to something special can also spike their truffles with a liqueur.

A Couple of Cup Cakes

After spending a great deal of money on a large and elaborately decorated wedding cake, it can seem a shame to immediately slice it into hundreds of pieces to serve to your guests. One way around this is to serve wedding cupcakes as an alternative. Each individual cupcake becomes a colourful piece of art that can be enjoyed by individual guests without the need for a complicated serving system. Couples may even like to use finely decorated cupcakes as colourful place settings.
