Time to ‘Thai’ the knot

While Thailand offers pleasant, balmy conditions all year round, subtle seasonal changes can make certain times of year even better to get married

If you’re jetting off to Thailand to say your vows, you can look forward to a multitude of highlights, from gorgeous tropical scenery to a rich and intriguing culture.

Plenty of brides and grooms-to-be choose to the Land of Smiles in search of better weather than they could expect to get at home – but it’s worth bearing in mind that slight seasonal changes do mean certain times of year in Thailand offer slightly different weather conditions.

Whatever the weather, a warm day is guaranteed, so outfits should be appropriately chosen with comfort as much of a priority as style.

Below is a swift journey through the seasons in Thailand and the benefits of each as a time to get married.

It’s a Celebration

If your wedding guests are flying thousands of miles to watch you and your loved one tie the knot, then it makes sense to organise your big day at a time of year when there is plenty going on. Thailand’s peak season falls during December, and thanks to Christmas and New Year festivities, you can pick and choose from a range of events to surround you wedding day – parties and firework displays to spiritual ceremonies at local temples. Local establishments including restaurants, beach clubs and bars also tend to put on plenty of special events at this time of year, so it’s well worth checking out if your guests might want to tie in a few parties with your wedding celebration as well.

Feeling Good

While the majority of the peak season’s parties and celebrations are concentrated from December to February, in terms of weather the high season actually runs from November through to March. The temperatures at this time of year drop slightly compared to the period preceding the green season, and the landscapes are lush and full of new life. The surroundings are comfortable and the temperature is just about perfect for an outdoor wedding ceremony, whether that’s out on the beach or in the beautifully landscaped garden of your privately rented villa.

Green Dream

Thailand’s main green season runs from approximately May through to November, although the conditions vary depending on where you are in the Kingdom (it’s worth noting for example that Koh Samui usually gets most rain in N0vemebr). Most precipitation, even in the rainy season, tends to come in short, refreshing bursts and often in the early evening, so there’s still plenty of sunshine for visitors to enjoy. In fact, there are plenty of days when it doesn’t even rain at all. Green season also means there are excellent deals to be found – especially for private villa rentals, which are growing in popularity as the perfect luxury wedding venues.

Sun Soaked

If you want guaranteed sunshine and blissful tropical temperatures, March is one of the best times to organize your Thailand wedding. The sun is shining and the scenery is golden and gleaming – the perfect wow factor setting for a wedding celebration that guests will never forget. This time of year is especially ideal for beach weddings, as the revitalizing sea breeze will provide a natural burst of air conditioning to keep guests fresh in the heat. Private villas with lofty vantage points are also fantastic at this time of year, especially those in coastal locations that benefit from the flow of the glorious coastal breeze.

Culture Fix

If you’re particularly interested in delving into Thailand’s fascinating culture, then it might be worth checking out the Kingdom’s jam-packed calendar of cultural events and festivals before settling on a date for your wedding. Chinese New Year in February is an exciting time to be in the country, and there’s always plenty to do and see. On the other hand, November’s Loy Krathong festival – also known as the Festival of Lights – offers a festive atmosphere and some visually stunning events that are well worth checking out, wherever you are in the country.
