Coveted Backdrops for Destination Weddings

Tropical island locations in Southeast Asia continue to shine as sought-after venues for destination weddings.

Earlier this month, Bali played host to the celebrity wedding of Australian television star Jane Allsop.

The romantic barefoot ceremony, in which Allsop wed her childhood sweetheart of 18 years, took place to a background of gleaming Bali beaches and lush rice paddies and the couple opted for a Buddhist ceremony.

“We don’t need a piece of paper to show we love each other. Even as a little girl, I never fantasized about getting married,” Allsop told the press. “One night at the dinner table the kids said, 'Why don’t you get married?' and 24 hours later, Dave proposed.”

It is not only Allsop that has been attracted to a wedding ceremony on the romantic Indonesian isle. Hollywood is rife with rumours that A-listers Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis are also planning a lavish wedding ceremony on Bali.

A report published by Life & Style magazine earlier this year revealed that the popular actors, who played alongside each other as Michael Kelso and Jackie Burkhat in That ‘70s Show are also planning a US$2.5 million island ceremony.

“It’s [Kunis’] first wedding, so [Kutcher] wants her to have the fairy tale,” revealed a source close to the actor who has previously been married to movie star Demi Moore.

Like Bali, Thailand also has a strong appeal for celebrity couples looking to exchange their vows in a tropical destination wedding. In addition to stunning beach backdrops, both destinations are home to lavish accommodation options which offer A-listers complete privacy for their celebrations.

Private villas, in particular, offer an additional degree of exclusivity for celebrities seeking an opulent hideaway where they are able to tie the knot far away from the prying eyes of the paparazzi.

Phuket, Koh Samui, and Bali are also home to first-class hospitality options to ensure a sparkling celebration that rivals anything available in the most fashionable cities like New York or London.
