Phuket and Samui Awarded Top Romantic Honours

Thailand’s world-famous reputation as an idyllic destination for weddings was further bolstered this month when the tropical islands of Phuket and Koh Samui both received awards acclaiming them as romantic destinations.

Respected travel website Fodor's reported Phuket as one of its top honeymoon destinations for 2015, while VeryFirstTo.com announced Samui as one of the top 10 romantic destinations in the world.

VeryFirstTo.com is a high-end retail website geared towards the upmarket tourism sector, and Samui appeared on the “Top 10” list alongside destinations such as Paris and Venice.

According to Fodors, Phuket’s natural beauty sets it apart from other romantic destinations around the world, and the island’s charming beaches and stunning sunsets were named as highlights for loved-up couples. The island’s five-star resorts and fine dining options were also emphasized as reasons why Phuket ranked alongside the likes of Milan and St. Bart’s as one of most dreamy honeymoon getaways in the world.

On VeryFirstTo.com, Samui was rated by 581 members as one of the world’s most romantic destinations. According to participants who took part in the survey, Samui’s laid-back island vibe intertwined with the island’s upmarket resorts and restaurants to make it ultra-romantic.

“It’s wonderful that Thailand's loveliest islands are being recognised as romantic hotspots just in time for Valentine’s Day,” said Thawatchai Arunyik, governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).  “Thailand is a romantic destination for couples and honeymooners all year round. Phuket and Samui are known for their lovely beaches, stunning scenery, warm sea, ever-friendly people and range of fun activities to enjoy, as well as being home to some of the finest hotels in Asia: everything a couple in love could ask for,” he added.

These awards come as great news for couples choosing to say their vows in the Land of Smiles. The accolades are unsurprisingly not the first praise to be showered upon the Kingdom in 2015. Earlier this year, the country was also announced as the “Sexiest Romance/ Honeymoon Destination in Asia” by readers of Recommend magazine in the USA.

“This award is another testament to Thailand’s wide variety of upscale tourism products and services that suit the needs of newlyweds and loving couples wanting to create an ever-lasting memory of their nuptials,” said Arunyik.

In celebration of the month of love, couples getting married or honeymooning in Thailand through February have been granted a swift trip through immigration upon entry to the Kingdom. All newlyweds and honeymooners who registering at desks in Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport or Phuket International Airport are able to use a premium lane to fast-track immigration queues.

The TAT is also treating couples to enter in a prize draw with hotel accommodation, spa treatments and dining vouchers are up for grabs.
