Thailand Scoops Indian Destination Wedding Award for Fifth Year

Thailand has once again been named as the best wedding destination by readers of popular travel  magazine Travel + Leisure India.  2016 is the fifth year in a row that Thailand has triumphed in the Best Wedding Destination category, as voted by readers. The award was presented at the Shangri La Hotel in New Delhi.

The winner of the award is chosen via a readers’ poll in both print and online versions of the magazine. Expert judges’ opinions are also factored into the final decision, which reflects the opinions of Indian wedding planners and couples looking to tie the knot abroad.

“The fact that Thailand has now won this award for the fifth year running, shows how attractive the Kingdom is to couples seeking an amazing and romantic wedding venue,” said Khun Yuthasak Susaporn, governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT). “Thailand’s wedding industry is experienced in hosting events of all sizes and meeting the unique needs and desires of couples wanting a romantic day. What’s more, our luxurious accommodation and attractions ensure weddings in Thailand will be remembered forever,” he added.

While many of Thailand’s high-end hotels offer couples a choice of wedding packages, a growing number of brides and grooms are opting to say their vows in one of the country’s private villas. With exquisite facilities to rival any of the Kingdom’s finest hotels, getting married in  a private holiday  villa allows couples to create a more bespoke celebration that caters specifically to their own tastes.

According to the TAT’s New Delhi office, 400 Indian weddings per year are held in Thailand. They take place in a range of  locations, and have also prompted more Indian travellers  to choose Thailand for birthday parties, special anniversary events, bachelor and bachelorette trips.

As well as being an attractive option for the Indian market, Thailand has long been a popular wedding destination for couples from the rest of the globe, too. Next year, Phuket will host the fourth Annual Destination Wedding Planners Congress from 2-4 May. The event will attract approximately 450 leading industry experts from across Asia, Africa, the Americas, Australasia and Europe.

“Thai wedding planners are experienced and adaptable and extra atmosphere is guaranteed by a charming natural backdrop and Thailand’s endearing hospitality,” said Khun Yuthasak.
