Wedding Planners Gather on Phuket

One of Thailand’s most popular tourist hotspots, Phuket, recently welcomed more than 450 wedding planners from 65 countries across the globe.

Leading industry professionals flocked to the island for the 4th Annual Destination Wedding Planners Congress 2017 (DWP Congress 2017), according to a report in the Phuket News.

Organised by Dubai-based company QnA International, the event was the first of its kind to be held in Asia and was supported by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).

“Our Thai hospitality and services can make any dream wedding even more memorable,” said Khun Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, Thailand’s Minister of Tourism and Sports. “Our Amazing Thai Tastes offer various styles of food, from international cuisine to authentic Thai dishes, from taste local food to Michelin-star cuisine prepared by internationally-known chefs. Also, there are many honeymoon packages designed to extend the once-in-a-lifetime experience in Thailand,” she added.

Thailand has long been one of Southeast Asia’s most well-established tourism hubs and the Kingdom has enjoyed a growing reputation for honeymoons, weddings and romantic breaks over the past few years.

In a survey conducted at last year’s DWP conference, Thailand was chosen by participants as a destination of choice for couples from Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Australasia.

Over the past decade, a growing number of luxury private villas on islands like Phuket and Samui have become popular wedding venues for couples keen to create more bespoke celebrations.

“We are delighted to welcome wedding planners and key influencers in the global wedding business to Phuket,” said Yuthasak Supasorn, Governor of the TAT. “The DWP Congress 2017 is an opportunity for us to showcase Thailand as an international destination, not only on Phuket, but also in our other main destinations, which can also offer unique wedding and honeymoon experiences.”

DWP Congress functions as an important networking event for those in the wedding industry. The fact that Thailand was selected to host the congress shows the confidence leading industry professionals from around the world have in the Kingdom’s wedding and honeymoon sector.
