BW hotel gets airport hotel

Best Western has tagged its franchise brand to a hotel near Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport that it hopes will compete with the Novotel, the only hotel located inside the airport complex.

The property has 278 rooms and suites  and is located on Kingkeaw Road, 12 km from the airport terminal.

BWTBest Western properties are generally in the three-star category in Thailand, a star up on the group's portfolio elsewhere. But the so called airport hotel will have a tough time competing for business against the on-site Novotel and  a cluster of small budget class hotels, and apartments in districts close to the airport.

In addition, the imminent introduction of the airport express link will certainly make it more attractive for travellers to stay at hotels in Bangkok's Makasan district, where there are already refurbished hotels that stand adjacent to the main terminal that will offer downtown check-in facilities.

BWT-inside_2The official on-site airport hotel sells at around Bt6,000 a night, while serviced apartments and hotels, within 3 to 5 km, of the airport sell at Bt700 to Bt1,000 per night.

Best Western claims it can, initially, peg the rate at its property at Bt3,600 a night and as high as Bt4,500 after the launch period.

Membership in the group is quite flexible allowing a hotel owner to cancel the marketing alliance painlessly if the numbers fail to match the BW sales team's arithmetic on target bookings and room yield
