Thailand Trades on Romance

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) recently organised an “Amazing Thailand Romance Trade Meet” events at Bangkok’s Avani Riverside Hotel and Krabi’s Sofitel Krabi Phokeethra Golf and Spa Resort. Both events were part of a familiarization programme aimed at 72 travel experts and wedding planners from overseas.

The TAT is doing plenty of work do boost Thailand’s reputation as a romantic wedding destination, which already attracts couples from all over the world.

Wedding planners from various major source markets attended the event, including professionals from the USA, Canada, Brazil, France, the UAE, Hong Kong, China and many more Southeast Asian countries.

A recent study, carried out by the TAT in 2013, showed that Thailand hosted more than a million wedding and honeymoon-related trips, generating THB34.62 billion (US$968 million).

Findings of the report also indicated that key source markets included East Asia, Europe and ASEAN, which major driving factors including the wealth of spectacular beaches, high end accommodation options and the balmy climate.

“Thailand has been voted the ‘Best Honeymoon Destination’ by various websites and media, so we are confident the two trade meets in May will help grow the wedding and honeymoon market even further,” said Juthaporn Rerngronasa, the TAT’s deputy governor for international marketing.

Tourism experts believe that one of the main reasons Thailand has become so popular with couples seeking to tie the knot abroad is thanks to the range of personalized experiences and wedding packages available.

Couples that choose to get married in a private rental villa on one of the Thai islands, for example, enjoy an exceptional level of service from wedding planners and hospitality staff. A high degree of personalisation can also be built into ceremonies, which means couples are able to plan a completely bespoke celebration that truly reflects their tastes.

Another reason why Thailand is growing in popularity as wedding destination can be attributed to the high level of exclusivity offered. Many resort and private rental properties come with their own beach access, which means couples can set up a celebration just metres from the ocean – without having to worry about the prying eyes of people passing by.
